About Amr Salam

Dr Salam has a vast range of clinical experience covering the whole scope of dermatology. He treats everything from acne to general rashes, moles to skin tags, and performs a wide range of skin surgeries. In fact, he is the Lead Consultant for the Community and Acute (Hot) Clinic services at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology, covering the entire scope of skin disease.

Dr Salam completed a 1-year fellowship in Medical Dermatology and Medical Education at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology where he developed specialist expertise in managing eczema, psoriasis and hair disorders. He also undertook a clinical attachment at the highly prestigious Yale University Dermatology Department, USA.

Dr Salam developed a dedicated Acne service protocol for his Trust, authored the south-east London prescribing guidelines on Spironolactone (an acne treatment), and is responsible for accrediting doctors for prescribing Isotretinoin (Roaccutane). Dr Salam is currently part of the Tertiary Eczema Service at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology and manages the full spectrum of the disease. He has published and presented internationally on hair disease whilst securing a research grant from Alopecia UK and attending patient support group events as an expert.

Dr Salam is completing his Masters in Clinical Education, and is the Director for the international St John’s Diploma in Specialist Dermatology (www.stjohnsdiploma.com) - the world’s first and only distance learning qualification in specialist dermatology. He is the Course Director for 2 national & international courses. He sits on the British Association of Dermatologists Undergraduate Workstream. Dr Salam is internationally published, has authored multiple textbook chapters, and is an invited speaker at international conferences.

He is a senior lecturer and tutor at King’s College London, and is also a research collaborator with NASA.

In his spare time Dr Salam is a keen badminton player, competing at county level, and enjoys skiing.

Dr Salam can also speak fluent Arabic.

Dr Salam has been in clinical practice for over a decade, including medical and surgical experience. His ethos centres around delivering world-class, evidence-based treatments specifically tailored to the needs of each individual patient. Dr Salam graduated with Honours from medical school at the University of Birmingham, and completed his intercalated BSc with 1st Class Honours at Bart’s and the Royal London School of Medicine where he was awarded the University Prize for the highest academic mark.

Dr Salam completed the prestigious Academic Foundation Programme at Imperial College London Hospitals, where he was awarded the Sir Brian Jarman Prize for the best research project. He then went on to complete his general medical training in South London, working at internationally renowned centres such as King’s College Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital.

Dr Salam went on to become the highest ranking Dermatology specialist training candidate in the UK, and completed his specialist dermatology training at the world renowned St John’s Institute of Dermatology.

Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications.
