What is heart health screening?
Welbeck’s heart health screen is a comprehensive assessment, created by our leading cardiologists, to give you a clear understanding of your current heart health and future cardiovascular risk. It helps identify whether any lifestyle changes or medical steps are needed to reduce your chance of heart disease in the years ahead.
You may choose to book a heart health screen if:
you feel well, but would like to understand your heart risk more clearly
you have risk factors such as high cholesterol, raised blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, or a strong family history of heart disease
you want personalised, evidence-based advice to help reduce your risk early and maintain a healthy heart
At Welbeck, heart health screening is carried out by our expert cardiologists within our state-of-the-art Heart Health centre. In one convenient visit, you’ll undergo a series of non-invasive heart checks tailored to your individual profile.
Your results will be reviewed by your consultant, who’ll meet with you for a dedicated follow-up consultation. During this appointment, you’ll receive a personalised report and a clear, practical plan to empower you to take control of your long-term heart health.
In this video, consultant cardiologist Dr Boon Lim talks about understanding your heart health and the benefits of Welbeck’s heart health screening.

More information
Your screen will involve a range of non-invasive tests, all carried out in one visit to our Heart Health centre.
Screening includes:
12-lead ECG and resting blood pressure – records your heart’s electrical activity and baseline blood pressure
echocardiogram – an ultrasound scan to look at heart muscle and valve function
24-hour blood pressure monitor – tracks blood pressure through the day and night to spot potential issues that may not appear during a single reading
STOP-Bang questionnaire – screens for obstructive sleep apnoea, which is linked with cardiovascular risk
QRISK score – calculates your 10-year risk of cardiovascular disease to guide prevention
blood tests – full blood count, thyroid function, urea and electrolytes, and lipid profile (cholesterol and triglycerides)
The tests typically take around 90 minutes, and you’ll then wear the blood pressure device at home and return it the next day.
Within 24 hours of your appointment, one of our leading cardiologists will carefully review all your results and prepare a detailed, personalised report. You’ll then have a dedicated follow-up consultation — in person, by video, or over the phone — to discuss your results in full. During this appointment, your consultant will explain what your findings mean for your heart health and outline practical next steps.
Your personalised plan may include lifestyle guidance covering nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress management, as well as advice on medicines or further investigations if needed. Should additional assessment or treatment be recommended, your cardiologist will guide you through the next steps and coordinate any referrals within the Welbeck ecosystem. This joined-up approach ensures you receive the most accurate advice, timely follow-up, and the highest standard of care, all under one roof.
Heart health screening is very safe, and the checks used are non-invasive.
On the day of your appointment, wear loose clothing with easy access to your arms and avoid vigorous exercise and caffeine for 30 to 60 minutes before your appointment, as both can temporarily raise blood pressure.
Bring a list of your current medications, and if you use a wearable or home blood pressure device, feel free to bring it so we can compare readings.
You’ll be able to return to your normal activities after your screening, including going to work. You’ll be given a 24-hour blood pressure monitor to wear, but you can still carry out your usual activities while wearing it.
While wearing the monitor:
keep the cuff dry
keep your arm still when the cuff inflates
write down any symptoms, activity, and sleep/wake times in the diary provided
Heart health screening costs £1,500. This includes a 90-minute appointment to carry out the assessment, plus a follow-up consultation with a cardiologist to review your personalised report and discuss recommendations.

Frequently asked questions
No, a heart health screen is designed for people who don’t currently have symptoms. If you’ve experienced chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, fainting, or new ankle swelling, it’s important to have a clinical assessment first rather than a routine screening. Please let us know about any symptoms when you contact us, and we’ll arrange a prompt review with the appropriate specialist to ensure you receive the right care as soon as possible.
With your permission, yes. After your screening, your consultant cardiologist can share a summary of your results and a personalised report with your GP. This ensures your doctor has a full picture of your heart health and any recommendations made, so your care remains joined-up and consistent. If you’d prefer for your results not to be shared, that’s entirely your choice.
You’re never too young to start looking after your heart. While most people book a heart health screen from their 30s or 40s onwards, younger adults can also benefit — especially if you have risk factors such as raised cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, or a family history of heart disease.
Screening at a younger age gives you the greatest opportunity to make positive changes early, when lifestyle adjustments can have the biggest impact on your long-term heart health. If you’re fit, well, and without risk factors, your consultant may simply confirm that no immediate testing is needed and offer advice on how to maintain a healthy heart.
Most private health insurance policies cover investigations only when there are specific symptoms or a diagnosed condition, so heart health screening is often a self-pay service. However, some insurance plans may contribute towards parts of your assessment, such as the echocardiogram or blood tests, depending on your policy.
If you’d like to check whether your insurer will cover any part of your screen, our bookings team can help you confirm this before your appointment. We’ll provide a clear cost breakdown in advance, so there are no surprises.
