About Nay Aung
Dr Nay Aung is a Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre and Associate Professor at Queen Mary University of London. He provides comprehensive cardiovascular care for all cardiac conditions, with subspecialty expertise in advanced cardiac imaging and heart failure.
He graduated with honours from University College London Medical School in 2008 and completed his cardiology training at leading London teaching hospitals. Dr Aung holds a PhD in cardiovascular genetics and artificial intelligence from Queen Mary University of London, supported by a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship. He also holds an Executive MSc in Health Economics from the London School of Economics.
An EACVI Level-3-certified cardiac MRI expert trained in multiple imaging modalities, including cardiovascular CT and echocardiography, Dr Aung delivers integrated multimodal assessment tailored to individual patient needs. He has particular expertise in the diagnosis and management of heart failure, both genetic and non-genetic, using precision medicine approaches.
Awarded a prestigious MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship, Dr Aung leads pioneering research programmes developing AI for cardiovascular medicine. His work includes an NIHR programme deploying AI-enabled diagnostic pathways and an EU Horizon Europe project. He has authored over 120 publications in leading journals, including Circulation, JACC, and Nature Genetics. His research has been recognised with multiple accolades, including the Royal Society of Medicine President's Prize and Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award from Queen Mary University of London.
Dr Aung uniquely integrates genomic risk profiling, advanced imaging biomarkers, and clinical data for highly personalised risk stratification and treatment strategies. He also offers extensive preventive cardiology services, including executive health assessments and bespoke wellness programmes. His approach emphasises comprehensive assessment, clear communication of complex cardiac conditions, and shared decision-making to empower patients in their cardiovascular health journey. Dr Aung contributes to European Society of Cardiology white papers and serves on multiple committees, ensuring his practice reflects the latest advances in precision medicine while maintaining a compassionate, patient-centred approach.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, but only for certain services. Some consultations, assessments, and treatments can be booked directly, while others require a GP or specialist referral. Please check the relevant service page for guidance, and contact the centre if you’re unsure.
We aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible, and many services have same-day or next-day availability. Waiting times vary depending on the appointment type, specialty, and consultant availability, but our team will always offer the earliest suitable appointment.
Yes. You can arrange an appointment for a family member, or someone you care for, just let us know when you get in touch. We’ll need their details and consent to complete the booking, unless you're their legal guardian or have power of attorney.
Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications. Come with a comfortably full bladder so you can provide a urine sample if requested.
