About Devinder Bansi

Dr Devinder Bansi is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Founding Partner at Welbeck. He partnered with Welbeck in 2017 to collaboratively develop the Welbeck Digestive Health and Endoscopy Centres and has applied his extensive experience to improve the patient experience. He serves on the GI Board at OneWelbeck as well as being the Chair of both the GI and Endoscopy QUAPI committees and Clinical Lead for Business Development at OneWelbeck Health Partners.

With over three decades of medical experience, Dr Devinder Bansi has firmly established himself as one of the UK’s most respected and experienced gastroenterologists, offering expert care in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, abdominal pain, liver disease, acid reflux, and gastrointestinal cancer screening, amongst others.

In 2017 , he was recognised in the Top Doctors awards- a certificate of excellence awarded for recognition of skill, care and professionalism, as nominated by his medical peers across the UK. He is also the recipient of the 'European Gastroenterologist of the Year Award 2025 as well as in 2026'.

Dr Bansi graduated in Medicine from the University of Southampton in 1988 and undertook a series of junior medical posts before being awarded a highly regarded fellowship in Gastroenterology at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, in 1993. He completed his MD thesis in 1997 and pursued further advanced training in London. His academic and clinical excellence led to his appointment as a consultant gastroenterologist and honorary senior lecturer in Medicine at the prestigious and world-renowned Hammersmith Hospital, now part of Imperial College London.

In clinical practice Dr Bansi performs over 1500 endoscopic procedures annually making him one of the UK’s foremost experts in complex endoscopic procedures. He is particularly renowned for his pioneering work in minimally invasive endoscopic treatments for obesity, a field in which he has become a national and international key opinion leader. Dr Bansi leads one of the country’s most advanced centres for endoscopic weight loss interventions and was one of the first specialists in the UK to establish a dedicated endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) service — a less invasive, non-surgical procedure that uses endoscopic suturing to reduce stomach volume, offering a faster recovery and greater comfort for patients.

A UK-accredited trainer in endoscopy, Dr Bansi is also a national and international proctor and European expert in metabolic endoscopy, regularly teaching other doctors in these cutting-edge techniques. His expertise is frequently sought after at national and international medical conferences, and he has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals as well as being an author on various endoscopy practice guidelines.

He is an active member of several distinguished medical societies and sits on national and international endoscopy committees including the ASGE (American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy), IFSO (International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity & Metabolic Disorders) and BOMSS (British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society), contributing to key studies on digestive diseases and new therapeutic methods.
