About Aymer Postgate
Dr Postgate graduated from Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital in London in 1999 with First Class Honours. During his training he was awarded the Baldwin Prize for Clinical Medicine, the Bristowe Medal and Beaney Prize for Pathology, The War Memorial Clinical Exhibition, and The Wolfson Foundation scholarship for his BSc studies.
Core medical training was at Charing Cross and West Middlesex Hospitals followed by specialist training in gastroenterology and general medicine within the North West London region between 2003 and 2010.He spent four years at the St. Mark's Hospital, including three within The Wolfson Unit for Endoscopy for his post-graduate research for which he was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine degree from Imperial College London in 2010.He undertook a 6 month ERCP Fellowship at Hammersmith Hospital prior to his appointment as a full time NHS Consultant at Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London in 2010.
In his NHS practice, Dr Postgate undertakes a wide range of advanced and interventional upper and lower endoscopy procedures, including ERCP and large colonic polyp removal, and he leads the capsule endoscopy service at his Trust. He provides outpatient and endoscopy services at both Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital, managing the full spectrum of gastroenterology conditions, as well as general hepatology and pancreatobiliary disease. He also looks after a large cohort of inflammatory bowel disease patients in his weekly IBD clinic at Mount Vernon Hospital. He looks after acute medical and gastroenterology / hepatology in-patients at Hillingdon Hospital and provides emergency gastroenterology cover at Hillingdon and Harefield Hospitals.
Dr Postgate has been actively involved in research and academic publishing, with multiple publications in the fields of interventional endoscopy and capsule endoscopy. He has authored and peer-reviewed articles for international medical journals.
Dr Postgate endeavours to engage with all of his patients in a timely, courteous and friendly manner, to explore their symptoms and concerns in depth and arrange relevant investigation if required, and to present a clear opinion and treatment plan tailored to each patient, involving them in every step of the process.
Dr Postgate lives in North London with his wife, a local GP, and 3 boys.

Dr Postgate has published 14 papers including original research and review articles in international journals in the fields of interventional endoscopy and capsule endoscopy. He has published a book chapter in the standard text ‘Colonoscopy: Principles and Practice’, and he has peer reviewed articles for a number of international publications.

He completed his MB BS degree with First Class Honours and in the top 3 students of his year. He received the Olympus KeyMed Travel Scholarship to the University of South Carolina during his period of Endoscopy Research at St. Mark’s Hospital. In 2010, he was awarded an MD from Imperial College London for his research into Capsule Endoscopy. In 2015, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (London).
