About Aymer Postgate
Dr Aymer Postgate is a consultant gastroenterologist and Partner at Welbeck, with a specialist interest in therapeutic endoscopy and ERCP. He leads the Endoscopy Unit at his NHS Trust where he has held a substantive post since 2010.
He graduated from Guys, Kings and St’ Thomas’ Medical School with First Class Honours and trained in general medicine and gastroenterology in North-West London region. Following a period of research in the endoscopy unit at the specialist St. Mark’s Hospital, he was awarded an MD degree from Imperial College London.
He has carried out over 7000 colonoscopies with excellent safety, comfort and polyp detection statistics.
Dr Aymer Postgate MBBS (Hons) BSc (Hons) MD FRCP is a full-time Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician at the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London, where he leads the Endoscopy unit and undertakes the majority of the complex and interventional endoscopy including ERCP.
He is a consultant appraiser and sits on the regional training panel for the next generation of gastroenterologists. He is also an honorary Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust where he provides emergency endoscopy services. He has carried out over 7000 colonoscopies with excellent safety, comfort and polyp detection statistics.
Dr Postgate trained at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, graduating in 1999 with First Class Honours. Dr Postgate went on to complete his core medical training at Charing Cross and West Middlesex hospitals. He then undertook specialist training in gastroenterology and general medicine in the North-West London region including four years at the specialist St Mark’s Hospital.
Dr Aymer Postgate partnered with Welbeck Health in 2018 to collaboratively develop the Welbeck Digestive Health Centre.

Dr Postgate has published 14 papers including original research and review articles in international journals in the fields of interventional endoscopy and capsule endoscopy. He has published a book chapter in the standard text ‘Colonoscopy: Principles and Practice’, and he has peer reviewed articles for a number of international publications.
Awards & Recognition
He was awarded the Baldwin Prize for Clinical Medicine, the Bristowe Medal and Beaney Prize for Pathology, The War Memorial Clinical Exhibition, and The Wolfson Foundation scholarship for his BSc studies, for which also received a First Class Honours degree.
He completed his MB BS degree with First Class Honours and in the top 3 students of his year. He received the Olympus KeyMed Travel Scholarship to the University of South Carolina during his period of Endoscopy Research at St. Mark’s Hospital. In 2010, he was awarded an MD from Imperial College London for his research into Capsule Endoscopy. In 2015, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (London).
