About Michael Loebinger
Professor Michael Loebinger is a consultant respiratory physician here at Welbeck Lung Health. He also leads the lung division at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. He specialises in respiratory infection and also leads the host defence unit, which is one of the most respected respiratory infection units in the world, looking after some of the largest global cohorts of patients with bronchiectasis, non tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) and fungal disease. He has helped shape international clinical practice and co-chaired the British Thoracic Society (BTS) bronchiectasis guidelines and co-wrote the BTS NTM and European respiratory Society (ERS) bronchiectasis guidelines. He is a founding member of the UK and European clinical and research bronchiectasis and NTM networks, and leads global multicentre clinical trials.
He has an active research programme, which has produced over 200 publications, media interest and grant awards and he was awarded Professor of Practice (Respiratory Medicine) at Imperial College in 2018. He is also a very keen footballer having represented Cambridge and Oxford University 1st teams in fixtures which have included English Premier League reserve teams, a passion that he is also living vicariously through his children.
