About Colin Butler

Mr Colin Butler is a leading Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon. He is based in London and sees patients at Welbeck, Portland Hospital for Women and Children, and Great Ormond Street Hospital specialising in paediatric ENT care. He graduated from University College London in 2004, and undertook a BSc in Clinical Anatomy. He completed his Specialist ENT training in London working at The Royal National Throat, Nose, & Ear Hospital, Barts NHS Health Trust, lmperial College NHS Healthcare Trust & Charing Cross Hospitals, and the Royal Marsden Hospital.

​After completing his training, Mr Butler undertook prestigious specialist fellowships in Paediatric ENT at Great Ormond Street Hospital and a Royal College of Surgeons approved fellowship in Head & Neck and Thyroid & Parathyroid Surgery. He is one of a few UK surgeons that are dual-fellowship trained in paediatrics and thyroid conditions. During these fellowships, Mr Butler obtained considerable experience in advanced airway surgery, complex surgery for the trachea, and in treating thyroid & parathyroid disease, as well as complex head & neck problems.

​Mr Butler obtained a Wellcome fellowship, and completed a PhD in Airway epithelial stem cell biology from UCL. Colin continues to play an active role both in translational and clinical research. During this time he undertook the dedicated Tracheal fellowship at Great Ormond Street. He has a special interest in airway reconstructive techniques for the airway, and also has an interest in paediatric thyroid disease. He has a research group at the Institute of Child Health, investigating paediatric ENT diseases in children with ENT problems. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed publications, numerous book chapters, and presents regularly on an international basis.
