About Edward Mullins

Dr Mullins studied medicine at the University of Nottingham and completed his PhD in fetal growth at Imperial College London, where he is a Clinical Associate Professor. He trained in obstetrics and gynaecology in North-West London and specialises in labour ward, maternal medicine, diabetes in pregnancy and pre-conception counselling.

Alongside his work at Welbeck, Dr Mullins is a Consultant Obstetrician at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London where he cares for low risk and complicated pregnancies, leads the diabetes and pregnancy service and plays a key role in maternity safety. He setup and leads a new service in NW London providing choice of contraception after birth as part of maternity care to improve access to reliable family planning.

During his O&G training, Dr Mullins was awarded a fellowship with Professor Dame Sally Davies, Chief Medical Officer for England, as Editor-in-Chief of her national report into Women’s Health in England, which brought numerous improvements to women's health in England. Following this he was awarded a National Institute for Health Research Academic Clinical Lectureship at Imperial College and is currently a Clinical Senior Lecturer. During the pandemic, he was seconded to Professor Sir Chris Whitty during the pandemic as a clinical advisor and led and collaborated in national and international studies of COVID and pregnancy.

His clinical research group is at Imperial College and the George Institute for Global Health and uses innovations in data and technology to prevent the complications of pregnancy. Dr Mullins lives in West London and enjoys running, playing the piano and a good book.

Your first consultation includes a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors, followed by a thorough examination. It’s helpful if you can bring the results of any previous investigations with you, as well as a list of your current medications. Come with a comfortably full bladder so you can provide a urine sample if requested.
